International Chess Festival Mikhail Chigorin Memorial

 
St. Petersburg, Russia, October 12 – 22, 2011
 

The festival will take place in “Azimut” hotel (Lermontovsky pr. 43/1) and consists of 2 tournaments.

Tie-break system in both tournaments:
1) Buchholz
2) Median-Buchholz
 
All prizes are taxable according to the Laws of the Russian Federation. The prizes are paid out in Russian roubles (official rate on August 29 is 1 euro = 41.67 roubles).
 
Prizes for best seniors can be won by players born before 31.12.1951, for best juniors – born after 01.01.1995, for best gentlemen – born between 01.01.1952 and 31.12.1966.

Last year winners were GM Sergei Yudin (Rapid) and GM Eltaj Safarli (Classical)

 
A. Rapid chess tournament, October 12-13, starts at 17:00.

Time control 15 minutes per game + 5 seconds increment for each move, 9 round Swiss.
Entry fee: 1000 roubles (juniors under 16, seniors and women – 800 roubles).
Registrations are accepted on October 12, 10:00 – 16:45.
 
Total prize fund (granted by St. Petersburg Chess Federation) – 400.000 roubles (approx 9.600 EUR):

The prizes are not shared, a player can win only one prize.
 

B. Classical chess tournament – stage of Cup Russia, October 14 – 22.

The schedule:

Round 6 19.10 at 17:00

Registrations are accepted on October 13 from 9:00 till 20:00, October 14 from 9:00 till 12:45. There will be additional Round 1 pairing for players registered on October 14 between 12:45 and 16:45.
 
Time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves, 30 minutes for the rest of the game with 30 seconds increment per move, starting from move 1.
 
According to the Cup Russia regulations, players may agree to a draw after move 40 only.
 
Should a player be late for more than 30 minutes after the round began, he’s forfeited in this round.
 
Entry fees:

ELO>2500, GM, WGM no fee
2401-2500 1500 rbs.
2201-2400 2000 rbs.
2001-2200 3000 rbs.
2000 and less 3500 rbs.
unrated 4500 rbs.

 
There is a 20% discount for the following categories of players with ELO:
– women;
– players born before 31.12.1951;
– players born after 01.01.1995;
– International Masters.

In case of a tie the main prizes are shared according Hort system, prizes less than 1000 roubles are not paid. Special prizes are not shared. A player can win only one prize except for the case a woman wins a ‘best woman’ and one of the main prizes.
 
The winners are qualified to the final stage of Russian Cup  according to the Russian Cup  2011 regulations.
 
Conditions of participation
 
Top players can get certain conditions on agreement with organizers.
 
Organizers offer accommodation in “Azimut” hotel at special prices (breakfast included).
– single room “comfort” 1550 roubles/night;
– double room “comfort” 2400 roubles/night (1200 roubles per person);
– single room “business” 2200 roubles/night;
– double room “business” 3100 roubles/night.
 
Hotel check-in time is 14:00, check-out – 12:00.
 
The players who are willing to stay in the official hotel should register before September 20.
