Joshua Daniel Ruiz Castillo wins 9th Cherry Blossom Classic

Colombian grandmaster Joshua Daniel Ruiz Castillo triumphed at the 9th edition of the Cherry Blossom Classic open tournament which took place from 26-30 May at Washington Dulles Airport Marriott in Virginia.

Ruiz Castillo was number three on the starting rank list of the event and scored impressive 8/9 points to earn 22.1 rating points showing the rating performance of 2704. After a loss in the fourth round against FM Justin Paul, the Colombian won five games in a row to emerge as the sole convincing winner of the event. Replay the games here

Three players tied for the second place with 6.5 points, each: GM Hedinn Steingrimsson, IM Sahil Sinha and FM Justin Paul. The tiebreak criteria determined the medalists with Steingrimsson finishing on the second place, Sinha claimed third place and Paul came fourth.
