Kateryna Lagno and Tan Zhongyi will play a tiebreak match tomorrow to determine the second semi-finalist of the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament. The match ended in a tie 2-2 after four draws, although it seemed that Lagno had good chances to prevail.
Kateryna Lagno explained in today’s post-game interview that she was surprised by Tan Zhongyi’s opening choice in the fourth round: “Today’s game was very complicated. She surprised me in the opening, playing the Dragon, and I couldn’t figure out who was better and why. The position is probably equal when she plays 21…d4 (…) Tomorrow is the tiebreak, so I am trying to stay focused. I have to play four games and I don’t think that the draw of colours matters so much: I just need to prepare the games”. See the complete interview below
