The 56 years old Ukranian Grandmaster is still sending ripples through the chess world and setting an example for future generations.

Currently playing in Menorca Chess Open 2025, Ivanchuk is with perfect 5,0/5. Double rounds? No problem! 2700 opposition? No problem! Ivanchuk keeps playing and winning.

The whole month of Ivanchuk has been impressive so far. Ivanchuk has played a total of 23 games and has not lost a single one so far. In Reykjavik Open he scored 7,0/9 (five wins, four draws), in Semana Santa he won the bronze with 7,5/9 (six wins, three draws) and now in Menorca Open he is at 5,0/5 (five consecutive wins). This brings Ivanchuk back in top 100 with a rating gain of 32,7 ELO.

Vasyl Ivanchuk, born March 18, 1969, in Kopychyntsi, Ukraine, is a Ukrainian chess grandmaster renowned for his brilliant and unpredictable playing style. Achieving the grandmaster title in 1988, he rose to prominence with a peak world ranking of No. 2 and a FIDE rating of 2787. Ivanchuk won the 1988 World Junior Chess Championship, the 2004 European Championship, and multiple elite tournaments like Linares and Wijk aan Zee. Known for his creative and intuitive approach, he’s competed in world championship cycles, reaching the 2002 FIDE final.
