Levon Aronian saves the losing position against Angola’s IM David Silva

Levon Aronian debuts for the USA National team at the 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India. The USA Team met lower-rated Angola in the first round and Levon was playing the first board against IM David Silva (2315). The game didn’t start well for Aronian, and he faced serious trouble after 25…Nf6?! Having a clear exchange down, Levon offered a draw and IM David Silva accepted.

Levon Aronian is well known for having rock-star outfits during chess tournaments, but this time Angola’s team stole the show and maybe confused the first board of the USA team. With the victories of Wesley So, Leinier Dominguez and Sam Shankland on the last three boards, USA convincingly won the match with the final result 3.5-0.5. Replay the games here
