The Julius Baer Generation Cup is the 7th event of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour and takes place from 18-25 September on chess24.com. The event features 16 world-class players spanning the age spectrum. World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen headlines the field and met again with 19-year-old Hans Niemann, resigning his game after only two moves of play (Read more here). The field includes also the six-time World Championship candidate Boris Gelfand, Ukraine’s 53-year-old former World Rapid Champion Vassily Ivanchuk, 15-year-old Christopher Yoo, Indian prodigy Praggnanandhaa, Vincent Keymer, Arjun Erigaisi, Anish Giri, Levon Aronian, Liem Le, Radoslaw Wojtaszek, David Navara, Ivan Saric, and Adhiban Baskaran, and today gets cut in half, as only the top eight players proceed to the Knockout phase of the event.
Levon Aronian is currently tying with David Navara for the 12th place, and needs a very good performance in the last Prelims day to get into the top 8. On that way, Levon meets with Praggnanandhaa in the 13th round which starts today at 18:00 CEST. Follow Day 4 video coverage here
