Magnus Carlsen wins Airthings Masters 2023

The 1st event on the $2 Million 2023 Champions Chess Tour – Aithings Masters, took place from 6-10 February. The event was played in 3 Divisions of 8, 16 and 32 players with each division featuring a double-elimination knockout and a total prize fund of $235.000. The Grand Final saw the clash between the Winners of the Winners and Losers brackets – Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura.

World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen opened the match with a very important crushing victory. With the rest of the games finishing in a draw, Magnus Carlsen won the Champions Chess Tour Airthings Masters 2023. Carlsen pocketed $30,000, 150 CCT tour points, and secured his seat into Division I of the next Champions Chess Tour event. Hikaru Nakamura earned $20,000, 100 tour points, and entry into Division I of the next tournament.

Fabiano Caruana emerged as the Winner of the Division II after defeating Yu Yangyi, earning $10,000, 50 tour points, and a spot in Division I of the next Champions Chess Tour event. Sam Savian won the Division III beating Praggnanandhaa in the Grand Final, and won $5,000 and 20 CCT tour points.
