Magnus Carlsen wins MrDodgy Invitational Group A stage

The prestigious MrDodgy Invitational 3.0 kicked off yesterday on chess24 and takes place from 25 November to 1 December 2022. The group A games were played on November 25, while group B takes place on November 26. The top 8 players in each group will advance to the knockout stage of the event which will be played from 27 November – 1 December. 

Magnus Carlsen who joined the event as the last-minute replacement for GM David Howell won the group A stage of the tournament. Carlsen scored 11.5/15 points and suffered three losses. Poland’s FIDE Master Kamil Plichta made a sensation defeating the World Chess Champion in the fourth round of the event, and Carlsen lost two more games against Alan Pichot and Gawain Jones.

The top eight players who qualified for the MrDodgy Invitational knockout phase are: Magnus Carlsen, Daniil Dubov, Rauf Mamedov, Luis Paulo Supi, Alexander Grischuk, Vincent Keymer, Jorden van Foreest and Alan Pichot.
