Veselin Topalov, the winner of Mtel Masters’s last two editions, arrived at Sofia Airport at 18:00 local time. He was immediately besieged by a multitude of answer-hungry journalists. Topalov commented on the upcoming Mtel Masters,
“It is always interesting to play with new opponents. Mtel Masters 2007 will be a new challenge for me. I have had only one game with Sasikiran and I got a difficult draw in it. With Mamedyarov we exchanged victories a few months ago. We have only one match with Nisipeanu. For me, the strongest at the moment Kamsky and Adams because they surely have prepared well for events in the near future.”
Topalov also shared that he is writing a book about the match in Elista. He will comment the games with Vladimir Kramnik and additional text will be provided by Zhivko Ginchev. The book will be published in the USA in English.
Topalov answered questions about recent FIDE decisions. He said that there are constant changes in FIDE decisions. He feels somehow isolated from the World Championship cycle, but he believes there’s a change around the corner.
