The 2015 National Chess Championships are currently being played in several European countries. Especially active is the Eastern European region, where in Armenia, Belarus and Croatia the events are with strong fields and national titles at stake.

National Championship Armenia
The National championship of Armenia is taking place on 12-21st January 2-15 in Yerevan. In a field of multiple 2600 GMs, a round robin will determine the champion. The event is important for the main team of Armenia, as the national champion will be entitled to be part of the team representing the country at the Team Chess Championship 2015 and the Olympiad 2016.
After six rounds the surprising leader is Mikaelyan Arman, the lowest rated player in the field with 2350 ELO. He shares the same points 4,5/6 as GM Karen Grigoryan, but with better SB tiebreak. Third position is for GM Zaven Andriasian with 4,0/6, followed by  GM Robert Hovhannisyan with 3,5/6.

Croatian Chess Championship

Croatian top players are competing for a hefty prize fund of 10 000 eur in this year’s edition of the national championship. The event takes place 11-21st January 2015 in Opatija, a resort town in western Croatia, situated on the Adriatic Sea. In a very balanced battle  GM Alojzije Janković is leading with 5,0/8, followed by GM Jovanović ,  GM Stević, GM Bosiočić, and  GM Šarić with 4,5/8.

Belarus Chess Championship

The 81st Belarus Individual Chess Championship for men is taking place from 12th to 23rd January 2015. The event is a 12-player round-robin tournament with the participation of 7 Grandmasters: GM Aleksej Aleksandrov, GM Andrey ZhigalkoGM Sergei Zhigalko, GM Vladislav Kovalev, GM Nikita Maiorov, GM Kirill Stupak and WGM/ IM Nastassia Ziaziulkina.

Sole leader is GM Kirill Stupak with 5,0/6 followed by GM Aleksej Aleksandrov with 4,5/6 and GM Sergei Zhigalko with 4,0/6.

 

Georgia Women Chess Championships 2015

Georgia is organizing the national events for men and women with a very strong participants list. The women section games are currently going on. After eight rounds IM Nino Batsiashvili is leading with 6,0/8, followed by GM Bela Khotenashvili with 5,5/8. Third position is shared by IM Melia Salome and  IM Nino Khurtsidze with 5,0/8.
