1st Orissa International Open

Five players sharing first place with 8.0 points each

The 1st Orissa International Open was held on 7-14th June at At- Hotel Swosti Plaza in Bhubaneswar. Among nearly 400 participants, there were strong guest Grandmasters from Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Netehrlands and Bangladesh. Going into the last round, GM Igor Kurnosov held a half point advantage ahead of rest of the field, but he couldn’t beat GM Georgy Timoshenko’s active defence and had to concede a draw. This allowed Yuriy Kuzubov, Yuri Drozdovsky, Andrey Rychagov and untitled Indian player M S Thejkumar to join Kurnosov on the shared first place.

Top-seeded Sergei Tiviakov of Netherlands won in the last round for the final score of 7 points, but this was sufficient only for 14-40th tie. A selection of replayable games is bellow.
