FM Antonios Hadzimanolis wins the tournament
The 4th International Open Chess Tournament “Summer Cup 2009” took place on 18-25th July in Porto Carras, Greece. The playing venue was the luxurious 5-star Porto Carras Grand Resort, the largest of Europe and the Mediterranean (1763 hectares), on the seaside of Sithonia in Halkidiki, northern Greece. Porto Carras will also be the host of the 2010 World Youth Championships.
The tournament with prize fund of 3.100 EUR attracted 74 participants. FM Antonios Hadzimanolis won in the final round and grabbed a clear first place with 7.5 points. Talented FM Anastasios Pavlidis beat his colleague FM Konstantinos Nikolaidis and reached a sole second with 7.0 points.
Female players Ekaterini Pavlidou and WGM Anastazia Karlovich are in the group that shares 3rd-7th. The only Grandmaster, Rolando Kutirov from FYROM, finished with modest 5.0 points and shared 23rd place.
