Vassily Ivanchuk Routinely Concludes Bazna Kings, Takes First Place

Alexei Shirov beats Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu in the final round

The third Bazna Kings Tournament took place on 14-25th June in Bucharest and Bazna. Vassily Ivanchuk routinely concluded the event and with three draws in the final rounds still finished a full point ahead of second-placed Boris Gelfand. Ivanchuk’s next challenge will be Greek Chess League, starting on 3rd July in Halkidiki.

Teimour Radjabov had an unusually quiet tournament where he signed one win and nine draws. On the other end of the spectrum was Alexei Shirov who had the most decided games and shared the third place with Radjabov. In the final round Shirov beautifully outplayed the Romanian representative and his former second Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu.

Nisipeanu and Gata Kamsky shared the last place with three points each (six draws, four losses).
