VSK Sveti Nikolaj Wins Serbian Team Championship

Beograd Beopublikum finished second, photos and replayable games

The Serbian Premier Chess League had a thrilling finish on Friday when four teams in competition for the title were paired to play against each other. VSK Sveti Nikolaj (23 match points), last year champion Novosadski Sah Klub, 2007 champion Beograd Beopublikum (both 22 points) and the local Radnicki Kragujevac (21), were way ahead of the rest of the field.

VSK Sveti Nikolaj clinched the decisive match against Novosadski Sah Klub by 4-2, with wins from GM Ivan Ivanisevic and GM Aleksa Strikovic, both achieved with black pieces. This sparked a huge celebration in Valjevo camp who have finally won their first championship. Congratulations!

A quick win by Beograd Beopublikum’s best player, GM Bojan Vuckovic, was sufficient for the team’s victory as all the other games finished in draws. Beopublikum reached the second place, while brave Radnicki Kragujevac remained 4th. The last three teams are relegated to the lower divisions.
