FIDE Trainers’ Seminar in Cali

45 coaches from nine countries participated

The first FIDE Trainers’ Seminar in Latin America was held from 10th to 14th November 2010 in Cali, Colombia. It was a collaboration between the FIDE Trainers’ Commission (TRG) and CACDEC. Lecturers were FT & WGM Martha Fierro and FST & GM Alonso Zapata, and the Seminar was conducted in Spanish language.

The response was very enthusiastic, with 45 coaches from nine countries participating: Cuba, Brazil, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Honduras, Peru, Venezuela and Colombia! The Seminar venue could not take the number of coaches who expressed their wish to attend, with the organizer having to settle for the maximum of 45. There is a great need for qualified and certified coaches in Latin America by TRG FIDE.

It was a high-level Seminar with highly qualified participants, among which three Grand Masters and eight International Masters. The study material was taken from the excellent TRG publication “FIDE Trainers’ Commission Chess Syllabus”, written by seven senior authors.
