Anand is heading to Corus Chess 2010

Five Indians at Corus A,B, and C

Corus 2009

The World Champion Viswanathan Anand is going to participate in the 2010 edition of the Corus Wijk Aan Zee chess tournament. Anand, who is the winner of 5 editions (3 as sole title holder and 2 as joint winner) will be the only Indian in the Corus A group.

As expected, Anand and Topalov have opted not to meet before the Sofia 2010 World Chess Championship, and Topalov will be absent from Corus (he will play Linares 2010). This leaves GM Magnus Carlsen, current N1, and GM Vladimir Kramnik, as main competition for the top position of group A.

Besides Anand, four more Indians will participate in Corus. Pentala Harikrishna is one of the top seeded players in group B, where he will be joined by the young star Parimarjan Negi. The World Junior champion Abhijeet Gupta and WGM Soumya Swaminathan will compete in Corus C.
