David Navara counts to 8.5 in the Czech Chess Championship

94 players, 1-9th May at the Palace of Culture in Ostrava

The 2010 Czech Chess Championship was held on 1-9th May at the Palace of Culture in Ostrava, under management by the Ostrava Chess o.s. 94 players took participation.

Czech top player David Navara crushed all barriers on the way of becoming the national champion. He collected impressive 8.5 points from nine games, conceding only one draw on the final round.

Four players who shared the second place remained full two points behind. Among them is IM Pavel Šimáček, the champion from the year 2009, who scored high rating performance but was denied of GM norm because he played only two Grandmasters during the competition (needed three).

The report should appear soon on the Novoborsky chess server. Photos courtesy of Novoborsky Chess Club and Vladimír Jagr.
