April FIDE rating list

details and statistics

The FIDE top 100 rating list has been published. Anand is on top with 2803, 15 points clear ahead of Kramnik. Third is Morozevich and fourth is Topalov with only two points more than Carlsen and 4 points more than Aronian.

In the women top 100 for 35th time Judith Polgar is first. The most notable jump is for the ex world champion Antoaneta Stefanova, who climbs from 25th to 5th place with over 70 points jump.

Here we present you the top lists for men, women, juniors, and girls with some interresting facts around them. We also take a special look at how the April FIDE list changes the average ratings at top competitions such as Mtel Masters 2008, the Grand Prix in Baku, Gausdal classics, and the Chess Olympics in Dresden.

Note: The country lists have not been updated yet. Expect more info later.

FIDE rating list April

* Kramnik – Anand World Chess Championship match average ELO drops from 2799 to 2795 , as Kramnik loses 11 points and Anand gains 4 points. Yet, the two players take the #1 and #2 spots at the rating list.

* The challengers match for the World Chess Championship between Veselin Topalov and Gata Kamsky has lower ELO than in the January rating list. Topalov’s rating is dropping, while Gata Kamsky has not played official games. This will change in the July 2008 rating list, as both will participate in rated events.

* There are 23 players at the current top list with rating above 2700. However, the list is missing one more player, Judith Polgar. She is also in the 2700+ club, but for unknown reason is listed only at the top women list. (find the full top women list below)

* Mtel Masters 2008 average ELO rises from 2734 to 2737. Ivan Cheparinov exits the 2700 club, and Bu Xiangzhi enters with April rating of 2708.

* Grand Prix, Baku average rating was at 2716, making it the strongest of the Chess Grand Prix events in the calendar. The rating rises to 2717, and the strongest participant at the moment is Magnus Carlsen with 2765.

* There are 25 Russians at the top 100 lists. Ukraine has 10. China has 5 chess players, France 5, Bulgaria 4, USA 4, Azerbaijan 3, The Netherland 3, England 2, Spain 2.

* The top 100 list continues the rating inflation and the average rises from 2675 to 2677.

Women April FIDE rating list

Judith Polgar is top of the women list again with 2709. However, for unknown reason she is missing from the top 100 players list (probably to be corrected these days). Koneru takes the second place and is the only player with 2600+. She is followed by the Chinese prodigy Yifan Hou with 2549.

The ex world champion Antoaneta Stefanova rises her rating from 2464 to 2538 to make a fantastic jump from #25 to #5.

IM Harika is the player with most games on the list – 48. However, her rating does not change at all.
