From the interview with Radio Mayak
Vladimir Kramnik compared the recently finished World Chess Championship match with a football game: “This match, perhaps, can be compared with the situation that occurs in football, when a team concedes two goals in the first 15 minutes, then the aftergame is very difficult.”, he said in an interview with Radio Mayak.
“Many mistakes were made at the beginning”, he added, “You begin to flap, and for your opponent, by contrast, it becomes much easier to play. The failure at the beginning set the tone of the entire match, and the race was quite short, only 12 games. The second half was to my advantage, I managed to find my play, to take the initiative immediately after the opening. Had the match consisted of 20 games, there could be and would be a chance. Well, I will learn from my mistakes.”
Kramnik is big football fan, he even joked once that he made a short draw because he wanted to watch Champions League.
