Russia and China to play friendly match

18-27th September in China

Russian team is heading to China this Tuesday to participate in the traditional chess meeting with the neighboring country. The competition will take place on 18-27th September and according to the Sheveningen system of play. Each team is composed of five men and five women to play in separate tournaments, but the scores will be summed up in the end.

Russia will feature a very strong team. Men’s boards are Peter Svidler, Dmitry Jakovenko, Evgeny Alekseev, Ernesto Inarkiev and Evgeny Tomashevsky. Female players: Tatiana and Nadezda Kosintseva, Ekaterina Korbut, Ekaterina Kovalevskaya and Natalia Pogonina.

The first match between two countries was held on 2001 in China when Russians claimed the victory. Since then, on 2004 in Moscow, 2006 in China and on 2007 in Nizhny Novgorod, the Chinese team topped the opposition.
