GM Ahmed Adly leading the Junior Chess Championship

The World Junior Chess Championship is entering in a decisive moment. Round 7 results brought to the top GM Ahmed Adly as he won an important game against the well performing IM Wesley So. The Egiptian GM has 6,0/7 points and with a victory in the next round will have the trophey assured. All this came after a very surprising loss at the start from the 62nd seeded Viacheslav Kulakov. However, GM Ahmed Adly rapidly recovered and with 6 consequtive wins climbed to the top of the table.

There were three draws on the other top boards – IM Grigoryan – GM Wang Hao, GM Stellwagen – GM Meier, and IM Gopal Geetha – GM Rodshtein. This was perfectly used by GM Laznicka who won against Ashwin and climbed to second place with 5,5/7. GM Laznicka must get at least a draw against GM Ahmed Adly in round 8 to keep chances for the title.

With only two rounds left, there are nine players with 5,0/7 and small chances for grabbing the trophey – GM Rodshtein, GM Stellwagen, GM Meier, IM Gopal Geetha, IM Grigoryan, GM Wang, IM Wesley So, GM Popov, and GM Negi.

In the girls section, WIM Vera Nebolsina continues leading after a draw against the top seeded IM Dronavalli Harika. WIM Nebolsina has 6,5/7, but is closely followed by WGM Sabrina Vega Gutierrez. The Spanish young tallent won against the surprise of the tournament, WFM Sarah Hoolt, and is only half a point behind Nebolsina.
