Niclas Huschenbeth winner of Golden State Open

Holiday Inn Dublin-PleasantonThe 6th Annual Golden State Open was held over the Martin Luther King weekend from January 16-19, 2015, at the Holiday Inn Dublin-Pleasanton, 6680 Regional St, Dublin, California.

The event had six sections: Open, Under 2200, Under 1900, Under 1600, Under 1300 and Under 1000. The tournament format was 7-round Swiss, 40/110, SD/30, d10.

German Grandmaster Niclas Huschenbeth (student at UMBC) emerged clear winner with 6,0/7 points, leaving the second-placed GM Batchuluun Tsegmed of Mongolia half a point behind.

Huschenbeth won the top prize of $3100, while Tsegmed earned $1500. The total prize fund was $25,000.
