No major upsets at European Women’s Chess Championship in Chakvi

The 2nd round of the 16th European Individual Women’s Chess Championship 2015 finished on Wednesday without any major upsets.

The first seed Nana Dzagnidze (GEO 2570) defeated IM Marina Guseva (RUS 2391), while GM Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL 2512) convincingly won against WGM Daria Charochkina (RUS 2391).

Russian favourites in Chakvi, WGM Olga Girya (2479) and WGM Aleksandra Goryachkina (2474) also won their games against WGM Zoya Schleining (GER 2375) and IM Maia Lomineishvili (GEO 2364) respectively, while IM Svetlana Matveeva (2380) and IM Alisa Galliamova (2478) drew in all Russian encounter.

Nevertheless, some of the favourites lost their games today. Two Ukrainian favourites GM Natalia Zhukova (UKR 2456) and former World Champion GM Ana Ushenina (2467) lost to Armenian Lilit Galojan (2275) and WIM Salomeja Zaksaite (LTU 2203) respectively.
