Norway Chess 2022 takes place from May 30th to June 10th in Stavanger. The event kicked off with the Blitz tournament which determined the pairings of the main – classical event.
The event is played as a 10 player round robin with Magnus Carlsen as the top seed. The final list of participants after Richard Rapport’s withdrawal can be found here. The Winner of the Blitz event – Wesley So chose his starting number for the main classical event that starts on Tuesday, 31st May.

The time control of the classical event is: 120 minutes on the clock with an increment of 10 seconds after move 4. If the game concludes with a draw in the classical game, then the players will move on to Armageddon within 20 minutes after the draw, meaning that each round will have five winners.
Players will get the following points per round:
- Victory main game: 3 points
- Loss main game: 0 points
- Draw main game & victory Armageddon: 1.5 points
- Draw main game & loss Armageddon: 1 point
