Rose Atwell wins Central California Open

The 16-year-old US talent FM Rose Atwell is the winner of the Central California Open. Atwell won clear first with 4,5/5, ahead of GM Fidel Corales Jimenez, FM David Zakarian, and FM Patrick Peijun Liu with 4,0/5.

“I won the Central California Open, in clear first. This is the first time that I’ve won an open tournament, and I’m pretty happy about this. Rose Atwell is a 16-year-old FIDE Master and National Master from the United States, born on January 28, 2009, in Southern California. She started playing chess at age eight and has achieved notable results, including a standout performance at the 2024 North American Open in Las Vegas, scoring 6/9 against a field averaging 2480, with a performance rating of 2596. She also defeated her first Grandmaster at the 2023 Larry Evans Memorial and competed as the wildcard in the 2024 U.S. Women’s Chess Championship, which she called a dream come true.

Rose Atwell sets her standards high and says, ”I really hope that I can be a part of the [Olympic] team in 2 years for the Chess Olympiad 2026.”

Among other achievements, just recently Rose Atwell defeated Nakamura in an online Freestyle game.
