13. World University Championship, Katowice 2014 – Photo and Video report

WUC Katowice 2014The 13th World University Chess Championship is taking place on 18-24th August 2014 in Katowice, a city in Southern Poland.

The event is split into two sections – Men’s Tournament consisting of 46 players from 16 different countries and Women’s Tournament including 26 players from 18 federations.

All the participants were born between 1st January 1986 and 31st December 1996.

4 players lead the Men’s Section on 4/5 points each: GM Ruiyuan Yu (China), GM Ivan Bukavshin (Russia), GM Jan Bernasek (Czech Republic) and GM Karen Grigoryan (Armenia), while local WIM Klaudia Kulon is a sole leader in the Women’s Tournament with perfect 5/5 score. More about the International University Sports: The World University Sports (WUC) are part of the sporting events of the International University Sports Federation. Alternating with the Summer and Winter Universiades, they are organized every even-numbered year.
