Sarunas Sulskis takes first at the Guernsey International Chess Festival

The 37th Guernsey International Chess Festival was held on 16-22 October 2011 at the Peninsula Hotel, Guernsey. 62 players, and among them four Grandmasters, participated in the main Open.

The Open Tournament – Sponsored by Intertrust Guernsey

A Seven Round, FIDE rated, Swiss Competition, open to players of any grade
Time limit: 40 moves in 100 minutes and then 40 minutes to finish with a 30 second increment per move from move 1
Main Prizes: £1,200 : £600 : £300 : £200 : £150

1. GM Sulskis Sarunas LTU 2577 – 6.0
2-4. Collier David ENG 2100, GM Hebden Mark ENG 2506 and GM Pert Nick ENG 2557 – 5.5
5-8. CM Goater Kevin ENG 2138, GM Hillarp-Persson Tiger SWE 2535, Mack Wolfgang GER 2279 and Minnican Alan SCO 2106 – 5.0

David Collier qualified into the British Chess Championship 2012 as the highest placed eligible player.

Sulskis was delighted with the victory: “I will add this immediately to my list of achievements. I have quite a list of winning tournaments and Guernsey 2011 is a great addition to my biography”, he said for Guernsey Press.

Time limit: 40 moves in 2 hours and then 1 hour to finish
Main Prizes: £400 : £200 : £100 : £75

Hoogakker Peter from Netherlands and Kearsley Ray from England shared the first place with 5.5 points each. 44 players competed.
