Serbia announces teams for 44th Chess Olympiad 2022

Serbian Chess Federation today hold a press conference announcing the composition of National teams for the upcoming 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 which will take place in Chennai from July 28 – August 10.

Serbian Team (Open section):

  1. GM Velimir Ivic (2623)
  2. GM Aleksandar Indjic (2621)
  3. GM Robert Markus (2613)
  4. GM Ivan Ivanisevic (2550)
  5. GM Milos Perunovic (2544)

International master Miodrag Perunovic, popular chess YouTube streamer and chessable author, will be the captain of the Open team. Perunovic explained that the team in the exact same composition made a historical result in the 2021 European Team Chess Championship sharing the 6th place saying: “The Winning team cannot be changed”.

Serbian Team (Women’s section):

  1. WGM Teodora Injac (2384)
  2. WIM Tijana Blagojevic (2315)
  3. WGM Jovana Eric (2301)
  4. WIM Adela Velikic (2283)
  5. WIM Marina Gajcin (2281)

WGM Irina Chelushkina – the captain of the Serbian Women’s Team said this is the strongest composition that the Serbian National Women’s Team could possibly have.

Both captains announced the preparation of the Open and Women’s teams, explaining they will be a very important step to the good results in Chennai. The Serbian Chess Federation also announced the launching of the chess school for Women within the project “Women in chess”. The free lessons will be done online by WGM Ana Benderac. 17-year-old Ilija Serafimovic, a member of the Serbian Chess Solving Team joined the conference and shared his experience from the recently concluded 15th European Chess Solving Championship 2022 where the Serbian team clinched gold.
