It was an exciting day yesterday at the Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz 2022 with 9 blitz rounds on the schedule. (Read more – Day 4 recap) It was intense, but funny day for the players, especially for Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Ian Nepomniachtchi who met in the third round. Mamedyarov performed two illegal moves in the game and the players couldn’t stop laughing! In the post-game interview, Nepomniachtchi explained that Shakh first made a “longer knight move” as he moved the knight from d8 to g7, and later in the game illegally moved the king.
