SOCAR Energy Georgia sponsors chess federation

SOCAR Energy Georgia and the Georgian Chess Federation have signed an agreement on general sponsorship on Friday.

The agreement was signed by the director of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) Georgia Mahir Mammadov and the President of the Georgian Chess Federation Gia Giorgadze.

The funds are dedicated for the organization of international chess tournaments in Georgia and for participation of the Georgian chess players in tournaments in foreign countries.

The sponsorship by SOCAR is extended for the fourth year in a row. During this period the company has invested around USD 520,000 in chess federation.

SOCAR Energy Georgia was general sponsor of the 2010 European Youth Championship which was held in Batumi and the 2011 European Women Individual Championship in Tbilisi.

This year the company will sponsor the ACP Women Cup, which is due to start on 17th February in Tbilisi. Thanks to Alexander Kentler.
