South Sudan determined the team for the upcoming 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 after the selection process which featured three tournaments.
More than 120 players took part in the first phase with the top 40 proceeding to the second stage. The second event determined 12 players who competed in the final 11 rounds round robin event for five seats in the South Sudan National Team. The 6th player will be the team’s captain.
The top seed of the last stage, Gong Thon Gong won the event scoring 8.5/11 points. Peter Majur Manyang was second with 8 points, Ajak Mach Duany claimed bronze with 7.5 points, while Rehan Deng Cypriano came fourth with 7 points. Madol Garang Panthoum and Manyok Chaderek tied for the fifth and last place in the National Team with 6.5 points, each, but both shall travel to India, one taking the role of the player, and another taking the role of the captain.
