Round 4.1 of the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2021 brought only two decisive results and 6 draws. One of them happened on the first board in the match between former World Champion Antoaneta Stefanova (Bulgaria 2463) and last World Championship challenger Aleksandra Goryachkina (Russia 2596).
Stefanova won the game after Goryachkina fell into a trap to take the poisoned pawn. Immediately after, Stefanova had the winning position, but the game lasted for 20 more moves.

In the interview after the game, Antoaneta explained that she was in a time trouble, and wasn’t sure if she’s winning. Commenting moves afterwards, Stefanova added: “This is a knockout, nobody wants to resign. It’s only natural that everybody uses their resources”.
“I don’t want to tell anything since the match is not over yet. But I am happy to still be here” concluded Stefanova.
