Susan Polgar: I am happy for Richard and his wife #TweetOftheDay

One of the best Hungarian Grandmasters and the Women’s World Champion Susan Polgar commented on Rapport’s decision to change federation to Romania.

On a personal level, I am happy for Richard and his wife to have a better chance at the world championship crown. As a Hungarian, I am sad that he did not have enough financial support from his native country. He is a brilliant player and I wish him the absolute best!wrote Susan Polgar.

Richard Rapport – World number 5, and his wife WGM Jovana Rapport started the transfer procedure aiming to play under the Romanian flag as Richard had financing problems and a lack of support from Hungary. Key details as to how this agreement was reached and what are Rapport’s goals.

Just a day before confirmation that Rapport changes federation to Romania, he decided to withdraw from Norway Chess 2022, possibly looking for calmer preparation for the Candidates Chess Tournament 2022.
Richar Rapport recently won the FIDE Grand Chess Prix event in Belgrade, and as the second ranked player of the FIDE Grand Chess Prix qualified for the Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 which will be played in Madrid from June 16 – July 7.
