Ukraine comes on top in the 6th Lublin Festival

lublin_miasto_inspiracji_enThe 6th Lublin Chess Festival 2014 was organized by Lublin Chess Club, in collaboration with Lublin City and Polish Chess Federation from 6th to 11th May, 2014, at the Crown Tribunal (3rd floor), in Lublin, Poland.

The event was a Union Memorial match Poland – Ukraine with Scheveningen System in 4 rounds X 2 (classic and rapid chess match).

The tempo of play was 90 minutes for the first 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the end of the game plus 30 seconds per move starting from move 1 (for classic chess) and 10 minutes per player plus 5 seconds per move (for rapid chess).

The team of Ukraine, with members: GM Alexander Moiseenko (2707), GM Alexander Areshchenko (2701), GM Zahar Efimenko (2657) and GM Mikhailo Oleksienko (2618), was convincing in the classical match 12.5-3.5 points.

The hosts from Poland – GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek (2716), GM Grzegorz Gajewski (2631), GM Swiercz Dariusz(2627) and GM Jan-Krzysztof Duda (2573), hit back in the rapid match, outplaying the opponents by 10-6.

However, Ukraine is the final winner of the Chess Union Memorial match with the ultimate score 18.5 – 13.5 points.
