U.S. Chess Championships 2020

The U.S. Chess Championships for 2020 are being organised online for the first time ever featuring five national events: Junior, Senior and Elite National Championship.

US Junior Chess Championships concluded on 15th October and the winners are GM John Burke in the Open section and IM Carissa Yip in the Girls Section.

Senior National US Championship starts tomorrow as a robin round event played in 9 rounds with a total prize fund of 50.000 $.

The battling field is completed with 10 players: GM Larry Christiansen, GM Igor Novikov, GM Patrick Wolff, GM Gregory Kaidanov, GM Alexander Goldin, GM Alexander Shabalov, GM Joel Benjamin, GM Alex Yermolinsky, GM Dmitry Gurevich and GM Shelby Getz.

By the end of the Senior Competition, Elite Women National Championship will take place from 21-24 October with 100.000$ prize fund.

Players fighting for the title of US 2020 Women Champion are: IM Anna Zatonskih, Junior Women 2020 US Champion Carissa Yip, IM Annie Wang, WGM Tatev Abrahamyan, WGM Jennifer Yu, WIM Thalia Cervantes, WIM Emily Nguyen, IM Dorsa Derakhshani, WIM Ashirtha Eswaran, WGM Sabina Foisor and WFM Martha Samadashvili.

Elite Open National Championship with a total prize fund of 150.000$ and participation of America’s Top chess players will take place from 26-29 October.

The participants are: Wesley So, Leinier Dominguez, Hikaru Nakamura, Jeffery Xiong, Sam Shankland, Ray Robson, Sam Sevian, Dariusz Swiercz, Alex Lenderman, Awonder Liang, Alejandro Ramirez and Elshan Moradiabadi.
Average rating of the players is: 2667.
