Vladimir Belous wins Chicago Chess Open 2016

The 25th Annual Chicago Open was held on May 26-30, 2016, at the Westin Chicago North Shore Hotel, 601 North Milwaukee Ave, Wheeling, Illinois.

The event had 8 sections: Open, Under 2300, Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500, Under 1300 and Under 1000.

The strongest Open section with 126 participants was completed over 9 rounds of Swiss system in 5-days.

Grandmaster Vladimir Belous from Russia took a clear first place with 7,5/9 points to claim the top prize of 10,000 USD.

FIDE title norms were achieved as follows: GM norm for Luke Harmon-Vellotti, IM norms for Michael Brown, Zhaozhi Li and Matthew Larson.
