The International Chess Federation has declared 2022 as The Year of the Woman in Chess and established special Awards for Women in Chess. The awards recognize outstanding achievements and contributions to women in chess and the criteria for nominations are as follows:
1. The FIDE Year of the Woman in Chess Awards
The activity aims to promote the advancement of gender equality in chess. The awards recognize outstanding achievements and contributions made to develop, encourage and strengthen the participation of women and girls at all levels in the chess world, in order to close the gender gap. Federations are welcome to submit their nominations for the FIDE Year of the Woman in Chess Awards until June 17, 2022. Thirteen Awards in the form of trophies will be presented in the following categories:
1. Outstanding chess arbiter
2. Outstanding chess trainer
3. Outstanding chess educator
4. Outstanding chess organizer
5. Outstanding influencer/commentator/social media star
6. Outstanding photographer
7. Outstanding politician
8. Outstanding chess player of 2021
9. Outstanding ‘game changer’ (social project leader, role model, etc.)
10. Woman with disability for outstanding fighting spirit
11. Outstanding representation of ‘He-For-She’
12. Outstanding chess administrator
13. Federation with more percent of female rated players according to rated players number
Every federation may nominate only one person per category in no more than 3 categories. If you feel that an individual deserves to be nominated in more than one category, please submit a unique nomination in each appropriate category for that person.
