The Tata Steel 2013, taking place in Wijk Aan Zee 12-28 January, is officially opened. The drawing of lots gave interesting pairings right from the start. Carlsen – Caruana and Anand – Nakamura in group A, Naiditsch – Movsesian in group B, and Peralta starting vs Goryachkina in group C are the headliners of the day.

The top players shared their opinion before the start of the event. Last year’s winner Levon Aronian is hoping for a good result at Tata, as he thinks it is important to do well in the season opener. Vishy Anand recognized he was not in form during 2012, but expressed desire to change that at Tata. Carlsen agreed with the importance of his rating record, with his clear goal is to win the event.
