36th Balaton Open

Hungary flag The 36th Balaton Open is a 9-round Swiss tournament taking place from 12-20 June 2018 in Balaton, Hungary. Players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one.

Playing schedule in the open group: a 9-round Swiss system open tournament, time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes + 30 seconds cumulative increment for each move starting from the first move. FIDE rules are valid at the tournament.

The prizes are guaranteed upon the entry of minimum 60 participants and everyone may only win one prize. The prizes are taxable.

Best female player: 10000 HUF
Best player over 60 years of age: 10000 HUF
Best player under 1800: 5000 HUF
Best payer under 1600: 5000 HUF
Best female player under 18 years of age: 5000 HUF
Best male player under 18 years of age: 5000 HUF

Entry fee:

GMs, IMs WGMs, WIMs and players with a Rating over 2400 do not pay any entry fee.

Rating points 2001-2400: 27 EURO
Rating points under 2000: 33 EURO
Without Rating points: 40 EURO

Players may only participate at the tournaments in the possession of a tournament licence valid for 2018. Foreign players have to have a valid FRD fee (FRD fee is EURO 5,-).

Live games with analysis will be provided daily with the best chess software competing in the Top Chess Engine Championship – Komodo, Houdini, and Stockfish.
