48th Annual American Open in Anaheim

The 48th Annual American Open will be held on 22-25th November at the Doubletree Hotel Anaheim, Orange County, California.

The prize fund is $25,000, but it may be increased up to $50,000 based on 500 entries.

The format is 8 Round Swiss System USCF Rated Tournament. There is a 4-day and a 3-day option, the groups are merging on 5th round.

There will be six playing sections: Open, Under 2200, Under 2000, Under 1800, Under 1600 and Under 1400.

The Open section is open to all players rated over 2000. The U2000 players who want to play in the Open Section must first sign-up in their allowed section, and then send a request to play in the Open. There is a $50 additional charge for U2000 playing in the Open.

Entry fees range from $65 for unrated to $185 for the others (this will increase to $200 after 21st November). Grandmasters are free with early notice and reduction from prize.

Currently top rated participants are: GM Enrico Sevillano 2596, GM Joshua Friedel 2576, IM Roman Yankovsky 2560, GM Melikset Khachiyan 2546, FM John Daniel Bryant 2518, IM Jack Peters 2434 and IM Larry A Remlinger 2392.
