World No. 13 GM Richard Rapport has officially transferred to Romanian Chess Federation today. The transfer started in late May and concluded today with the Hungarian Chess Federation losing one of its greatest chess geniuses. Together with Richard, his wife WGM Jovana Rapport completed the transfer from Serbian to Romanian Chess Federation earlier in August.
Rapport’s father, Tamas Rapport, often emphasized that Richard has much less support than other sportsmen in Hungary, as well as that he had difficulties finding finances. He confirmed that Rapport signed the agreement to play under the Romanian flag.
