Fabiano Caruana: It was a total mess of a playoff and it was super difficult

Fabiano Caruana won the Champions Showdown Chess 9LX tournament in Saint Louis. Caruana headed into the last day lagging behind Firouzja, Mamedyarov and Nepo for a pull point, and confessed in the interview that he thought there are no chances to win the event. However, Fabi managed to catch Firouzja, scheduling playoffs which determined the Winner of the event.

Speaking about how he feels after winning the Chess 9LX, Fabi said: “This feels great of course. Even though it was a total mess of a playoff and it was super difficult, and honestly, I was very lucky in the last game in Armageddon, and also in the first game, still I feel very happy“. He added: “It was overall fun, and the last day was especially good because I didn’t think I had any chances to win with three rounds to go and so many people ahead of me. So much catching up to do, but all the games went well today“. See the complete interview below
