The French Individual Chess Championships 2022 will take place from 13-21 August in the city of Albi. A magnificent city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site will host the 95th edition of the French Individual Chess Championship after three years of pause caused by the pandemic of Covid19.
The event will be played in two sections: Men and Women, with 16 players in each section competing in a knock-out event with each match consisting of two classical games and rapid, blitz and Armageddon tiebreaks if the result is tied.
The Men’s Individual Chess Championship features a very strong line-up with 16 players and an average rating of 2558, with GM Jules Moussard, GM Etienne Bacrot and GM Laurent Fressinet as the top seeds. 16-player Women’s Championship is headlined by IM Almira Skripchenko, IM Pauline Guichard and IM Anastasia Savina.
