GM Bassem Amin and WGM Khaled Mona are 2015 African champions

AfricaThe African Individual Chess Championships for men and women took place from 2-10th May, 2015, in Cairo, the capital of Egypt and the second-largest city in Africa.

The event was split into two 9-round Swiss tournaments – Men’s Section and Women’s Section.

Egyptian players GM Bassem Amin and GM Ahmed Adly tied for the first place with 7/9 points each but Bassem prevailed on a superior tie-break score and took the gold.

IM Adlane Arab from Algeria emerged clear third with 6.5 points.

WGM Khaled Mona of Egypt stormed through the Women’s tournament, finishing with perfect 9/9 score. She took the trophy and added new 50 Elo points to her rating.

Algerian players WIM Amina Mezioud and WIM Sabrina Latreche shared second place with 6.5 points each.
