Hans Niemann: I am optimistic for my future

19-year-old Hans Niemann defeated Aleksandr Lenderman in today’s 11th round of the US Chess Championship 2022, just as he announced in the Round 10 post-game interview. Joining the live studio, Hans analyzed his game against Lenderman and said he was surprised to see that Aleksandr knew all the theory: “It was a pretty good game. I was impressed that he knew everything“.

Lenderman blitzed out first 20 moves, but with an inaccurate 20…ed4?!, he allowed Niemann to take control. It seemed it was not enough for Hans to score his second consecutive victory, but Aleksandr missed his chances to hold the position after 36…Kd8? Replay the game here

Answering how he assesses his tournament, Hans said: “Just terrible, just ridiculous! I have three losses and three wins, it’s just terrible. Especially as the three games I lost, I should’ve never lost. (…) So, still a lot to learn, but considering the fact that I’ve won three games, I am optimistic for my future“.
