Hikaru Nakamura road to Candidates: October LIVE

Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, the world’s number-two ranked chess player, continues his quest for the 2026 Candidates Chess Tournament by participating in yet another tournament. This time Nakamura appears in Canada, starting today Saturday October 11 at 10:30 EDT / 16:30 CEST

Nakamura announced himself the participation the day before the event on Twitter/X, where he posted a photo from Vancouver with the note, “Where in the world is Hikaru?” Hans Niemann was immediately critical, saying, “The US Championship is about to begin, so naturally Hikaru goes to farm a Canadian weekend tournament. 10 grandmasters are on standby. Good luck.”
