Igor Kovalenko leads the Latvian Championship after seven rounds

The 2013 edition of the Latvian Championships for men and women is taking place on 13th-20th April at the Mikhail Tal Chess Club in Riga.

The open event has a clear leader. GM Igor Kovalenko has a 6.5/7 score and only drew one game against second placed GM Arturs Neiksans. Living legend GM Evgeny Sveshnikov is in third place with 5/7 and a better tiebreak score than Kristaps Kretainis.

WIM Katrina Skinke is the sole leader in the women’s event with 5.5/7 points.

The prize fund in the main event amounts to 2.800 Latvian Lats (approx. 5.200 US dollars), with 700 LVL reserved for the winner.
