Juan Bellon wins Stockholm Elo Challenge 2013

Spanish GM Juan Bellon finished first at the Stockholm Elo Challenge 2013 that took place from April 26th to May 1st at the Stockholms Schacksalonger, Ringvägen 9 C, T-bana Zinkensdamm in the Swedish capital.

The veteran champion finished with 7.5/9 points – tied with local IM Pontus Sjödahl – but could claim the winner’s trophy due to his better tiebreak score.

Bellon had an impressive run of seven victories, one draw and one loss, precisely against Sjödahl. The Spaniard had a rating performance almost a hundred points over his actual Elo rating.

FM Jonathan Westerberg finished third as the only player with 7 points.

The prizes were distributed as follows (in Swedish Kronas): 1st – 9.000 Kr (approx. 1.400 USD); 2nd – 4.500 Kr; 3rd – 2.400 Kr; 4th – 1.800 Kr, etc.
