Magnus Carlsen victorious in his first Chess Olympiad 2022 game

World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen today made his debut in the 2022 Chess Olympiad in Chennai. The Norwegian team faced Uruguay, and the match looked tense after three hours of play. The favorites managed to convert to a convincing 4-0 result, despite the position being quite equal after more than three hours of play.

Magnus Carlsen defeated GM Georg Meier in a thrilling Queens’ endgame which was equal until the 74th move. Meier was inaccurate with 74…Kh8?! and made a crucial mistake in the 78th move which cost him a loss.
