Magnus Carlsen wins Julius Baer Generation Cup

After defeating Arjun Erigaisi in the two-day Julius Baer Generation Cup match with a convincing 2-0 score, Magnus Carlsen clinched the Julius Baer Generation Cup – the 7th event of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour!

The first final match was played yesterday and ended with a 2.5-0.5 result in favor of the World Chess Champion. The 19-year-old Indian prodigy needed to win the second set to take the final in the playoffs, but Carlsen started with a victory making Arjun’s position even tougher. Magnus overwhelmed his younger opponent in the second game and claimed an overall victory with the minimum possible number of games despite Erigaisi’s efforts to strike back.

I feel Arjun can do a lot better than this“, said Magnus in the post-match interview. Replay the matches here
